Rapper Nicki Minaj, born Onika Tanya Maraj, who made hits such as “Super Bass” and “Starships,” attended President Trump’s most recent rally, but not only did she attend the rally, she stood up on stage and said, "I'm probably the president's No. 1 fan, and that's not going to change."

This comes as somewhat of a surprise based on her views in the previous decade. Minaj’s style used to be very colorful and fun, revolving around Japan’s Harajuku style.
She was also quite open to supporting her queer fans, commending them for their strength in hard times. During Trump's first term, she was also very critical of his immigration policies, being a Trinidadian immigrant herself and not supporting the choices he was making then.
So why the change now? According to her, the bullying she saw online towards Trump made her sympathize with him. On “The Katie Miller Podcast” She said "When I saw how he was being treated over and over and over, I just couldn't handle it, I felt that...a lot of that bullying, and the smear campaigns and all of the lying, I felt that that had been done to me for so many years," she told Katie Miller. "And I was watching it in real time happen to someone else, and I didn't think he deserved it."
She was also a fan of how Trump brought awareness to the Christian Massacre in Nigeria on “Truth Social.” Trump also seemed to become a Nicki Minaj fan, calling her a “winner,” as well as giving her a special “Trump Gold Card” which magically puts her at the front of the line to receive U.S. citizenship.

For these statements and change in opinion, she has received quite a bit of backlash, with many other celebrities poking fun at her for seemingly selling out. Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett said “"I just don't do sellouts, especially in this moment," Crockett declared. "Things are too serious. There are too many people that are being harmed." And especially with her being an immigrant, then deciding to go and cozy up to this administration that is specifically putting targets on the backs of immigrants and anyone who stands with them … that is wrong, and I don't even understand how you can play with it and pretend like it's anything but wrong," she added.
