Prom 2025: Was it Worth the Seventy Dollars?

For many teens, Prom is thought to be the most important moment of their high school careers. Others could care less. After attending my first Prom this year, I found myself somewhere in the middle; despite the questionable DJ and the unseasoned chicken, Prom was a night to remember.
Arriving at Langtry Farms around seven o'clock, the first thing that caught my attention was the venue’s breath-taking vineyard views. The second thing I noticed was the security table stationed by the entrance of the dining room, where the principle was closely inspecting each students’ bags, pockets, and even ankles. They might as well have hired a bouncer too.
Dinner was served shortly, and the crowds of students dispersed amongst the dining room and outdoor tables. I had been told time and time again how stingy the food was at the last Prom, so compared to that, most people felt this year’s pasta dish was pretty good. I didn’t think it was all that great. On my plate was a sloppy scoop of flat-ish, circle-ish pasta swimming in watery white sauce and topped with a giant slab of pale, bland chicken. And let’s not forget the cold Hawaiian roll on the side. It wasn’t that I was expecting some fancy five-course meal (it’s a high school dance), but the dish could have at least been better seasoned.

As the sunset faded into the starry night, music began to pulse from the dance room. This being said, it took almost an hour for the dancing to start. I’m not sure where they found this DJ, but he could barley mix songs together. Not only that, but he also completely ignored the playlist our class officers had given him. The thing that really cracked me up was how much fun this man was having; while students were standing around, unsure of how to dance to his music, he was in his own happy DJ world. He definitely needed to read the room.
Luckily, towards the end of the night, the music got better and those who were still on the dance floor shared a few more party classics before making the journey home. When asked about her thoughts on the outcome of the event, class officer Holly Mccomas shared, “Overall I had really great company. I enjoyed seeing everybody in their dresses and I thought it was pretty much a success!”
In all, Prom was worth the pricey tickets because at the end of the day, it’s only a small fee to pay for the memories that you will hold with you forever. However I will say, next time they should just let me DJ.
