DOROHEDORO SEASON 2: WAS THE 6 YEAR WAIT WAS WORTH IT?

Dorohedoro is a beautifully animated dark fantasy horror manga and anime created by Q Hayashida with complex world building and lore. Despite its terrifying world, it also is comedic and has hilarious and ridiculous scenes that keep the story engaging. The leg gripping cliff hangers mixed with the humorous moments makes the series binge worthy. There are currently 13 episodes in total with new releases every Wednesday.
The first season of Dorohedoro premiered in Japan on January 12 2020, with the global version released in May 2020.
Fans of this anime have waited 6 whole years for the creation and release of season 2. Was it worth the wait?
Absolutely.
The animation was exactly what we had all been anticipating, following along with the manga with minimal changes in dialogue and plot. The animation is just as amazing and vibrant as the first season and the show had me on the edge of my seat despite already having read the manga.
The thing about Dorohedoro is it’s absolutely insane; and without such a detailed background, magic system and character history, it would be completely nonsensical. That's kind of the beauty of it. It's like a fever dream with its stunning visuals and insane plot twists. Hayashida really wasn’t afraid to push reality to its limits while still balancing a realistic society structure and meaning to every crazy event that happens.
In season 2, we see key plot events play out such as En’s brutal and unexpected Death, Nikaido's back story/ unique time magic and Caiman’s personality split. All completely untouched subjects in the much tamer season 1.
While season 1 introduced characters and the world, season 2 was a fast track to just how complex the entire story line really is, as we are thrown into a world of chaos. We are exposed to how intertwined all the characters are, especially Kasukabe, caiman and Risu.
Throughout the entire first season of Dorohedoro we are only acquainted with caiman, the lizard persona of the 3 split personalities belonging to Ai Coleman, who was a human living in the hole, and spent his life trying to become a sorcerer. He is introduced amnestic and with no prior character history besides once not having his iconic lizard head, being murdered in an alleyway, and being immune to magic while not wielding any himself.
In season 2, we get to witness the reveal of Aikawa, the cross eyed boss Kai, and his original form, Ai Coleman.

Overall I was so excited for the new season to come out and got exactly what I was looking for. A gory, chaotic film with amazing animation and color schemes and the same careful details and story building we see in the manga. 100% worth watching.
