Ambrosia has Greek origins which refers to food or drink that is fit for the gods of that time. The name fits perfectly and captures the amazing nature of this delicious dessert. Originally the salad consisted of simple ingredients such as coconut, oranges, and sugar. The ingredients listed were available in Southern households at the time being. The dish being an affordable and easy dish to prepare and serve. With the combinations of the juicy oranges and the sweetness of the coconut it created a refreshing flavor profile that then became popular among the locals around.
The word “Ambrosia” having Greek origins also means delicious and fragrant. Ambrosia was the magical fruit of ancient Greek mythology gods. The gods of Mount Olympus ate ambrosia to continue having immortality since without it they became weak. With us being free to eat and enjoy ambrosia in our day to day lives it was dictated that any mortals who ate or drank the gods food and divine nectar would face death.
