Haiden Deegan wins 2 SMX world championships at 18

Written by Vicente Tablit

Haiden Deegan, who has only been racing pro for 2 years, wrapped up his second Super Motocross world championship 250SMX title. Deegan was always dominant during the AMA Motocross Championships and carried it over to the outdoor SMX Championships.

The SMX world championship is an annual racing event held by the AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) It is one of the biggest motorcycle racing events held in the world. Hundreds of the best athletes from different regions compete in an outdoor supercross track to determine who will claim the championship title of that year and who gets the #1 plate.

Haiden spoke at the post-race press conference and expressed his feelings about the race, and what the SMX title meant to him, “It’s definitely super cool too because I’m only 18, you, three-time champ at 18 is definitely a gnarly goal knocked off the list,” Deegan said. “I definitely didn’t think I’d be in this position as fast

as I am right now, but I have a good team around, me, my family, you know, so a lot of hard work and we’re moving.”

During the first 5 SMX races, Deegan was dominating with an almost 1 second lead in-front of podium riders. Though during the final race. Another young rider, Pierce Brown, 22 began to give Deegan a run for his money. Deegan was able to utilize his aggressive riding style against Pierce and stayed persistent with his speed, leading him to win.

“I mean, it definitely doesn’t come easy, but it’s to the point now where the hard part is training during the week and then you want it to be easy on the weekend,” Deegan Said. “So, that’s kind of been my main focus is just work as hard as I can so that these weekends are a whole lot easier than they should be. And that’s kind of how I felt like this season. Like outdoors, I feel like I'd show up to a race and like I when I got in the lead, I feel like those 35’s were easy for me. Like I wasn't getting out of breath or anything. And same thing with SMX, I feel like I just got into it and just instantly when there’s a championship ahead and I wanna go get it, I feel like I can just kind of pull out the dominant card and just go after that. So, all the hard work is during the week and then the fun Is  on the weekend.”

With Deegan's talent and the constant work he puts in. He is shooting for his rival, Jett Lawrence, 21 years old, 8 time 250SMX Champion title holder. Jett Lawrence has been dominating the East coast region in his class and almost always finds a way to come 1st. With his amazingly smooth riding style. It definitely makes him a very worthy opponent to Deegan.
