How will the Earth be endangered by Climate Change?

Climate change is a worsening global issue. By 2050, approximately 14.5 million deaths could occur, according to the World Economic Forum publisher, Oliver Wyman. There are many solutions to this problem, but some include saving energy, recycling, and switching to electric vehicles.

“Scientific evidence continues to show that human activities (primarily the human burning of fossil fuels) have warmed Earth’s surface and its ocean basins, which in turn have continued to impact Earth’s climate,” says NASA. Not only this, but greenhouse gases (methane) significantly drives changes in temperature and rising sea levels. Greenhouse gases originate from landfill waste, oceans, and countless other sources.

During the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, greenhouse gases first began to appear. Dangerous gases include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O). Air quality worsened in urban centers, triggering health concerns, but ultimately death. Currently, with the modernized industry, it has made a huge impact ever since. According to NOAA’s Annual Greenhouse Gas Index (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), the AGGI value reached 1.0 in 200 years, then in 2023, having risen to 1.5 in just 30 years.

While we cannot stop climate change, we can take steps to slow the process. One effective way to reduce your carbon footprint is to move away from fossil fuels and switch to electric. Additionally, using LED lighting at home can help, as traditional electricity causes higher greenhouse gas emissions during electrical generation. Another simple solution is to focus on reducing, reusing, repairing, and recycling to minimize waste.

If we do these, greenhouse gas emissions could fall 30% by 2030, according to PNNL.gov. We need to take action before lives will be lost and potential extinction will occur drastically on Earth.
