Lordes impact on a generation

Lorde, a 27 year old singer songwriter that has spoken to girls all over the world.  Lorde’s music has a sort of phenomenon that fans describe as guiding them through a variety of stages in life. Pure heroine describes life as a teenager, Melodrama being a young adult and accepting growing up, and Solar Power maturing and looking back on being a kid and an adult.

Her  first album was released in 2013, titled “Pure Heroine”. She was 15 years old when she wrote the bewildering album that describes what it's like to be a teenager and living with the complexities of life when it feels like life has barely started.

The most popular song off the album and her discography is “Royals” which later won a Grammy. The song is supposedly about the life that popular singers are usually trapped into, and not wanting to live that life.

My personal favorite off the album is another popular choice among fans is Ribs. Ribs is a very complex song that leaves you yearning for more of Lorde's views on life.

Her Melodrama album cover

Her sophomore album Melodrama, released in 2017, has resonated with fans through the tones of heartbreak. Despite songs being upbeat or energetic the lyrics have a very metrical feel, this can be viewed as being very different depending on your outside appearance vs inside thoughts.

All of the songs on this album stick out, but my favorite track is “Supercut” . Supercut looks back onto her past relationships and mistakes made by both parties. The song is a mix of a slow and fast song.

Starting off slower, then faster, then slower and quieter.

Her Solar Power album cover

At 24 years old Lorde released her 3rd album my personal favorite, Solar Power. Solar Power is vastly different to the mood of her previous albums, with the way she utilizes her voice or the tone of the lyrics in general.

What attributes to this was the 4 year gap between Melodrama and Solar Power, those years helping Lorde grow as a person and also in her music. One of the main genres of Solar Power is psychedelic, compared to the synth pop styles of her previous albums.

My favorite song off the album is titled “Fallen fruit” It references the story of Adam and Eve and the years of growth of humans and also the earth itself.

For a “release schedule” Lorde releases music without one. One of the main clues to music though is that she listens to her own music. She’s hinted at listening to her own upcoming music to critique it.

Recently she posted 2 things on Instagram. One with headphones sitting on the floor captioned, “Listening to myself” And the other with headphones on in the bathroom captioned, “full immersion” Both of these further hint and potential music drops upcoming this year. But one can only hope.
