New things in the Trap Music industry

Written by Jesse Koppel

Trap Music in 2025 has been increasing rapidly, and new melodies, harmoines, and lyrical content are being added often. With these new details, AI-Generated music content is on the rise as well.

With heavily influenced hip hop creators like Drake, Cardi B, and Migos it makes new artists come around as well. These artists originally came with lyrics including material success and relationships And now they have risen to incorporating social and political commentary into their lyrics. New/better technology has affected this genre too, With the use of synthesizers like the Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2 and Arturia Analog Lab Pro. With these instruments, they offer a vast library of sounds, creating powerful synthesis capabilities, which allows new artists to create unique and complex textures.

Trap music has been around for a while, which brings a darker, heavier version of it. Dark trap has been around since the 1990s. It’s a variation of Trap music but it brings an edgier, deeper, horrific, sound to the Trap Music industry. Memphis rap. In which is known its dark, heavy bass, and fast flows has been around since the early 1990s and it brought dark trap to light till this day where it's more heavily known. There are many other variations of Trap Music too. Such as EDM Trap, Dark Trap, Hybrid Trap, Deep Southern Trap, Mumble Rap, Trap Metal, Cloud Rap, Plugg, and possibly many more.

In the genre of Dark Trap there are many underrated artists too. Like Kill Dyll, Gashum, Sxumpa, Buffalo Farm, 99Zed, Isntasha, Harraper, and many more. People might think of Trap music in this day and age as a dying genre, but it’s eventually returning more often. But it has some downfalls along with it, such as new artists are struggling to break through and too make their names more well known. Others believe that its era is over and the genre should be replaced by new and better sounds. But including these better sounds they decided to bring other genres into the Dark Trap hype like Phonk, Chillstep, and many elements of ambient tunes.

With all these cool facts and details about this genre some people have heard about it and not. Like including my interviewee, Mitcha Smith. When interviewed she mentioned that she has not heard of such genre of music before and thinks it’s relatively connected to some kind of hip hop based sound. Her opinion on it is neutral, thinks the genre is okay but wouldn't always listen.

The Trap/Darktrap style has evolved a lot and especially because it’s from a way more popular genre. It makes new artists/musicians evolve more often. It’s a very creative and darkened genre of music, which,  I believe greatly, will go far  many days from now. I feel everyone should get a chance to listen to trap/darktrap music because it’s really creative, entertaining and has very interesting sounds to the genre, because of instruments with strings, improved vocals, fast paced rhythm, and many more creative and entertaining sounds.
