The Pokémon developers Game Freak had their servers severely hacked. Around 1 - 2 tb of data was revealed to the internet on October 12, 2024, the incident was given the name “Teraleak” by the masses, similar to the Nintendo “Gigaleak” that happened only a few years back, with both having similar amounts of data leaked (a few terabytes).
The information/data which was leaked included unreleased Pokémon designs, beta builds of old Pokémon games, unfinished builds of the newest Pokémon game (which is yet to be officially released), and incredibly disturbing (but luckily unused) story plots about human and Pokémon relations.
“In the beginning when the lines between humans and Pokémon weren't clear” is directly written in one of the stories that was in the leak. The buzz that came from day 2 of the Teraleak was generated by massive stories including mythologically inspired plots that entail Pokémon doing very not-safe-for-work things (the biggest one included the Pokémon Typhlosion), Pokémon and human cross breeding, as well as Pokémon torture and murder.
Additionally, in the Teraleak, one of the big theories around the creation of the Pokémon universe was essentially confirmed. The biggest story that came out of the Teraleak was a story where a dubious and ill-intended Typhlosion kidnaps a young girl by shape-shifting into a man, and you can probably figure out the rest. The Typhlosion is then killed by the father of the young girl. There’s more stories and they indeed get worse but we would rather not to get into those.
(Note: This section will be significantly shorter because there is a lot of information to go into, and we would rather summarize it)
Without further ado, let's move onto more positive topics. Other things that were included in the Teraleak were things such as the beta builds of past and future Pokémon games. The beta builds included a version of the unreleased Pokémon Z-A to release in 2025, an unfinished Pokémon Black & White that was never made, and many others.
In the 2 terabytes of leaked data a good portion of the data was unreleased/unused Pokémon designs, concept art in-game and not. A lot of people actually were really receptive to the unused designs.
In summary there was a lot of data in this leak, and it is most likely that the perpetrator is gonna be dealt with either legally or in other ways. Most likely legally, but if he/she is caught, there will be hell to pay.
