Snow Storm causes major damages

Written by Veronica Daughtery

Down in the South snow storms have started to rile up leaving damages to families and houses. These states being Texas through Louisiana, Nashville, Tennessee and Mississippi. There have been many power outages around the states leaving hundreds of thousands without power during this snow storm. Some people have got their power back while others still suffer in the dark. As The Weather Channel has stated, “More than 100,000 homes and businesses remain without power” this is growing as the snow keeps happening leaving more without power.  There have been about 93 deaths so far during this snow storm and potentially more to happen. Some of these deaths have been associated with hypothermia, some from snow shoveling or car crashes due to icy roads.

As this snow storm keeps happening the deaths are slowly rising, it's gone up from 41 to 93 within 5 days. There have been many more accidents happening such as collisions, with there being about 1,100 in North Carolina. The last time we had a snow storm this bad was in December of 2022. It left many places snowed-in, for example Buffalo, New York was left with 55 inches of snow. We can hope the snow in the South starts to calm down and go away, keeping those there warm and safe. The snow in the South hasn’t stopped since late January leading to it being a little less than a month.

How cold really is it in the South? Well these temperatures are around 30 degrees down to the single digits. These temperatures are decreasing slowly with the cold rising leaving people freezing without their power. There is no estimated time currently on when this storm will die down but we can all hope it's soon. A way to stay warm during the cold times is to layer your clothes up, use lots of blankets and try to find someone with power to stay with or help you out.
