Solving the Greatest Debate in History: Who Played the Best Spider-Man?

Written by Allison Taber

We have seen multiple versions of Spider-Man including characters, actors, and even different styles of suits. In my opinion, Toby Maguire's Peter Parker, in the first Spider-Man that came out in 2002 called Spider-Man, is the overall best Spider-Man. Some of the reason does have to do with him being the first actor to play the character however.

I would say he played his character well by staying in character and perceiving himself in a way that he actually looks in love with Mary Jane Watson. This is where some characters lack but I had the impression that it was truly based on Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst's tension during the movie. In the beginning, his suit was very bland and not at all pleasing to the eye but, eventually his suit came to be an iconic and bold look.

The movie starts off with Peter Parker getting bit by a radioactive spider, this spider makes his body hot, he starts eating a lot and eventually passes out on the floor.  When he wakes up he realizes his body has changed tremendously, he is more muscular and looks more manly. Eventually he discovers his reflexes are faster, he’s stronger, and shoots webs. Peter Parker uses these abilities to fight crimes and save the city from the villain named The Green Goblin. He gets a few kisses from his belated crush Mary Jane but not as Peter Parker, as Spider-Man. Towards the end he gets the same kiss from Mary Jane but he was himself. Just the same old Peter Parker but tells her that he can't be with her because he doesn't want her to get hurt.

A famous quote that stuck with me from Spider-Man is “Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words. 'With great power comes great responsibility.'" These were the wise words from Uncle Ben that Peter Parker shares later on. This quote shows that no matter what you do, you always have responsibilities. But that goes with life in general, not just superhuman or rather Spider-Man.

I would personally give this movie ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ it is personally one of my favorites of all time.  I often recommend it to people when they are looking for suggestions. Or just when we are talking about movies I tell them that the 2002 Spider-Man is my favorite movie and I would watch it a million times.
