The current state of the Russian invasion and how warfare has changed.

Updated: Apr 23

Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine, modern warfare has changed significantly. Although trench warfare is still present, Ukraine has figured out how to turn consumer drones no more than $2,000 into UAV bombers. Using drones like the DJI Maverick series and 3D-printed parts, they can attach mortars, bombs, grenades, and IEDs to the drone and remotely release and detonate them from up to 10 kilometers away (6 miles).

These drones are typically operated using Starlink internet. These drones are used to neutralize infantry, empty enemy vehicles, dugouts, bunkers, and vehicles carrying infantry. There are also kamikaze drones that they then fly into the target; destroying the drone itself along with the target. These drones usually have more explosives on them in order to inflict as much damage as possible. While these drones are small and short range, they do inflict a lot of damage and terror upon the Russians who have the common misfortune of encountering one.

While these drone attacks are mainly used on the front-lines and in contested territories, longer range and more sophisticated attacks have been performed. Ukraine has figured out how to convert small airplanes into remotely controlled long-range kamikaze drones.

According to Forbes, one of these drones has been used to strike a Russian kamikaze drone factory over 600 miles (965 KM) away! Many civilians have captured the attack on video, showing the plane descending into the factory, and upon contact it explodes.

Similar attacks have been performed on oil refineries, driving prices of gasoline and diesel to higher prices, causing Russia to import gas and other fuels rather than being an exporter.

Recently on April 11th, there was an attack on a mining and processing plant in Kursk Oblast Russia. Usually when these attacks occur, the Russian government likes to say that they “intercepted drones” but will not admit that the attacks were successful.

BBC news has stated that Russian armed groups which are Ukrainian based have performed attacks inside Russian territory. These armed groups are called The Freedom of Russia Legion and Siberian Battalion. Although being Ukrainian-based, they are not associated with the Ukrainian military. These armed groups had claimed that villages near Belgorod were then under control of “Liberation forces”.

While this war continues, on April 5th, 2024, the Orsk dam has collapsed, flooding areas of massive proportions. The cost of damage is estimated to be about 1.2 billion ruble, or $12.9 million USD. Instead of Russia helping, the Russian government is too busy with the war to do anything about the areas affected. The Russian government went to affected regions and filmed videos of them ‘helping’, which they then put on national TV. Civilians who actually live there were outraged and came forward about how they haven’t actually done anything at all to help the people.

The Russian government clearly does not care about its citizens or how they live. They're too busy with the war to help anyone in their own country, and are still losing.
