The new generation of the Z car, the Nissan Z (also called the RZ34, or the 400Z) is a hard topic for some people and could be for you too. Some people really like this car, a unique car that competes with cars today on the road, while others think there wasn’t a reason for it to be made, just a redesigned 370z or an Infiniti.
First off, let’s talk about what new the car has to offer and right off the bat it’s obviously the whole design of the car. It looks entirely different from that of the 370z, but takes inspiration from all generations of the Z cars. For instance, the 2024 Nissan Z Heritage has the front end similar to that of the original 240z. The taillights look similar to those of the Z32 300ZX.
Now, as to why people don’t like the car is just because it is a redesigned Z, mostly. It has a borrowed engine from the Infiniti Q50/Q60 Red Sport 400 which was a 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6 that made 400 hp which is a big difference from the 370z. Regardless, some think differently still.
A good thing that a lot of people were happy about is that it still came with a six-speed manual transmission, and an odd thing about that is Nissan made a NISMO model for the Nissan Z that kicked the car up to 420. It only came with an automatic transmission which a lot of people including me did not appreciate.
A big difference when people first looked at the car with the Z Proto was the new 2024 technology that is expected in most cars today: screens with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, etc.
“By the end of the last decade, the Nissan 370Z was getting pretty long in the tooth. Hints were finally being dropped about a replacement, but Nissan somehow managed to keep all the details secret. Then, in 2020, the world was finally introduced to the Nissan Z Proto, a nearly production-ready “concept” that would hit the streets the following years as the new Nissan Z. But was it actually, you know, new?” This is what Motor Trend says about the 2024 Nissan z and their first thoughts on the Proto, which gives you an idea on what people think about the car. You can read their full article on the car as they also compare it to the 370z here: https://www.motortrend.com/features/nissan-z-370z-new-vs-old/. To some people it still looks like a 370z with newer technology and a borrowed engine.
In my opinion however I like the car. I already own a Z31 300ZX, and I’ve always wanted to own all the Z cars anyway including the older original Datsuns like the 240z; 1600; 350z; 370z; and the new Nissan Z. Plus it’s still a bigger upgrade from the 370z making 400hp with the option to have manual or an automatic transmission and the NISMO edition making 420hp, but only featuring the automatic transmission. It's a little upsetting for some of us Nissan Z enthusiasts, but it is still a fun car automatic or not.
