The world is full of many burning questions like, why are whales so big? What’s the deal with airline food? Is cereal really soup? Is the Titanic even real? But none has intrigued people as much as the question of what in the world is up with Mr. McCall’s hat?
For those unaware, Mr. McCall’s infamous hat has the appearance of your typical baseball cap sort of hat, with one key difference, this hat's noticeable lack of a brim. While this doesn’t seem like much of an issue at first, this in my opinion creates one of the biggest assaults to the senses ever.
Even putting aside its appearance, what even would the point of a hat like this be? The whole point of a cap like that is to have a brim to help block sunlight, removing the brim removes that purpose. Of course head wear without brims exist such as beanies, but those are at least made to keep you warm, unlike many caps. Meaning that the point of the hat is for its looks, and even there it falls flat.
This issue cannot be tackled without first addressing the idea of, “fashion is subjective, people should just wear what makes them happy,” and of course that is a very fair point to make and is true for the most part. People should be able to wear what they want if it makes them feel good, but an exception should be made for clothing that could be considered a danger to others, this hat is one such case.
The hat’s look is so disagreeable that it can be considered a hazard. Due to an unfortunate color choice, Mr. McCall’s hat ends up making him look bald, becoming reminiscent of King Neptune from The Spongebob Squarepants Movie, who notably blinded people because he was so bald. The hat can also become a distraction because of how ridiculous it looks, this can cause problems as people may not be focusing 100% on their tasks due to the hat being visible out of the corners of their eyes. This can be observed first hand during the classes Mr. McCall wore the hat, where students became so distracted by the ridiculousness of the hat that it became difficult to concentrate on school work.
This isn’t the first time a brimless hat has captivated the minds of many, as a number of people may recall the famous “Yankee with no brim” from early 2020. The hat was a New York Yankees baseball cap with its brim cut off. The video of it would subsequently blow up online and become popular, with people even taking it upon themselves to make their own.
Some may ask, why was that hat okay enough for many people to own when Mr. McCall’s is a problem? To put it simply, the Yankee without a brim was never made out to be a bold fashion statement, and was rather joked about and became the subject of many internet memes. Its popularity was because of how absurd it was, and how ridiculous it looked, not because people thought it looked good. The “Yankee with no brim” at the end of the day was just a joke.
To conclude, the infamous Mr. McCall hat lacking a brim is a travesty to this world, and while some people may find it nice, it could be considered a safety hazard. This hat would probably serve better as a bowl than a hat, but at the end of the day it is still a good source of laughs and jokes, even if it is truly bizarre.
