The beloved book series Dune written all the way back in 1965 was finally given a second live action big screen adaptation. With the first movie coming out all the way back in October of 2021 we have finally gotten our long awaited Part 2 on March 1, 2024 of this year.
The movie continues to cover the first book finishing the story on where we left off, part 2 meaning the second half of the first movie instead of book 2.
The movie starts us off throwing us right into the story, at the last scene of the first movie. The movie does a great job at enticing us from the beginning, immersing us in the world right off the bat as if we’re continuing right where we started. We start off very, very strong.
As the story moves on we are continually immersed in the universe and moved at a very good pace. This movie did a very good job with the pacing always seeming to keep the audience engaged. At no point either did the writing ever get sloppy or lazy; it felt like full effort was put into every ounce of this movie.
Dune is set in a universe with many planets and locations. The settings in the movie were phenomenal. It actually felt as if you were watching live footage of these interstellar planets as different color schemes were given to each one portraying a different set of vibes for each new place you're brought too further immersing us into the setting.
They definitely spent their budget wisely on the set of the movie and did a great job at accurately portraying the locations. Based on the book’s descriptions the movie perfectly recreated what I had imagined in a way I never thought possible.
Something I was surprised by in this movie was the way certain characters were portrayed. In the first movie most of the characters were not as developed as you see them in part two.
I really liked how this movie made you connect with the characters in a better depth, really showing how the first movie was setting up the second one. Setting their conflicts up through the movie and making them feel important towards the end is something very well portrayed by this movie.
Just like with the setting the CGI in this movie was on point. In the movie there are these giant sandworm creatures that are tamed and ridden in the desert. The CGI made these creatures look so realistic and at no point ever in watching you thought you were looking at CGI.
The same can be said with the futuristic tech ships which were portrayed perfectly, not looking like a computer created them in any way. The battle scenes were also portrayed with this set of realness to them making it not look like a CGI mess but an actual futuristic battle in a way which blew my mind. Explosions and movements were done so perfectly you were constantly drawn in with every bit of screen time.
To sum it all up, all the people who compared Dune part two to the likes of the Empire strikes back, the godfather two, or any other part two sequel which surpassed the predecessor they would be correct. This movie was phenomenal and should be checked out by everyone, it is a highly recommended watch. I’d give Dune part two 5 stars out of 5 stars.
