For years Netflix has been in a cycle of taking off some of their best movies, and adding them back on soon after. They continue to devastate their viewers MONTHLY when doing this.
One of the most recent cases is La La Land. Coming to Netflix February 1st of 2023, it will be leaving at the end of January this year. Many long time fans of the movie who enjoyed having easy access to it are very upset with this change.
The dates of it being added and removed from Netflix tells us they had about a year long contract. But with the popularity of the movie and many giving it more streams before it is inevitably removed will it face the fate of other movies on Netflix?
For example, a popular on and off released movie on Netflix is “Scott Pilgrim vs. the world”
Whenever added back to the streaming service within a month or two you're probably going to see that “leaving soon” sign.' Consistently it most likely lands on the top 10 on Netflix when added back. The Netflix top 10 is, started from their website, “To give you a sense of what people are watching around the world” Although this movie might begin to sit permanently on Netflix after the release of the Netflix original “Scott Pilgrim takes off”
Many have taken to TikTok to express their complaints about Netflix taking off high quality
movies just to continue to pump out generic Netflix originals with no character or meaning. Although some Netflix shows and movies have been deemed successful and well written that doesn't mean that format is used for every project.
When asking people around how they felt about the topic a fellow Netflix watcher said, “That's all they know how to do, they make great shows just to cancel it after one season” Why does Netflix keep leaving their viewers on a dead end? Think about the shows people are actually watching, the average person is not watching the 7th season of big mouth.
How can Netflix fix this issue? Well an easy fix could be to actively consult their community on choices about existing and upcoming shows or movies. For any online service it's important to take peoples opinions into consideration and Netflix especially, should look into starting to do that.
