Teaching at MHS can always be a change, but we always appreciate our new teachers taking a chance on our little school. Ms. Gibson has become our new health teacher as of the beginning of this year and has already made it to the top of many students' favorite teacher list. She has formed strong connections even though as a health teacher she only has the freshman for one semester instead of the normal two. Though even after that single semester you already hear students talking about how amazing she was and even calling her things like G-dog and G-money. So, it’s obvious the students love her but how is she loving teaching here?
Ms. Gibson has been working as a teacher for many years now in many different schools. Her experience as a teacher from those other schools makes her a strong asset to ours. When asked exactly how long and where she has been teaching, she states, “ This is my 28th year. I started off at Harvest Park Middle School in the bay area. Then I went to Foothill High School, then Lower Lake high school, finally coming here to Lake County. Then I was at Konocti education for a while, tell I finally moved here.”
Even though she has taught at all those places, we all know Middletown has to have a special place in her heart (no bias from the writer included). When asked what she thinks about our school and if she liked our school she enthusiastically stated, “Yeah!” Then went on to explain, “I feel like the kids are more respectful, I think it feels more like family connected here.”
Then to follow that question she continues on about her favorite things about our school, because we all know there are a lot of things to love, “I like teaching where I live. I see kids at Hardester now and they're like “this is my mom!” I love it, though I can’t go out just for a quick thing anywhere, but I don’t mind. I like teaching my friends' kids! At my other schools I have always been like separated, now I am not”
From anyone who has Ms. Gibson as a teacher they see how true to herself she is, and how dedicated she is to be an amazing teacher and example. When asked what she wishes students to know about her she shows us this true dedication to this in her answer, “I practice what I preach, you aren’t gonna see me at McDonalds, the kids will see me at the gym. I will always try to set the example.”
Even with the awesomeness of our school there is always something to improve, especially with something as important as health. Ms. Gibson talked about her wish on how she hopes to have a whole year with the freshman instead of 1 semester, because there is always so much more that could be taught then just in half a year.
Even with only half a year with the students Ms. Gibson, G-money, makes the best impact she can. She teaches one of the most important lessons in life. Taking care of your body and mind through being healthy and responsible. She sets a strong example that all students need and truly tries her best at giving people the healthiest outlook on life. So with it being now almost a full year of her teaching here we are happy to welcome Ms. Gibson into the mustang family and can’t wait to see what she does in our school.
