Aurora Ybarra is a 16 year old Junior here at Middletown High School and their artwork is outstanding!
Aurora’s favorite medium when it comes to their art is sketching and a bit of painting from time to time.
They love to draw animals and the environment that surrounds them. They’ll usually take a picture and find a place to sit down with their sketchbook.
Aurora’s art is special because they are able to draw real life events or places they visit instead of finding an image off the internet.
Aurora has loved art since they were a toddler. They would draw daily and would show their mom. They also began to draw a lot more during the COVID-19 era, throughout this time Aurora and their family were moving from house to house so drawing would help give them that sense of calm to help relax.
When asked about what art means to them, Aurora said, “art doesn’t mean one thing it’s a passion that shows you and your depth and it can be used to connect to people through an expression, whether it's on paper, canvas, music, or sculpture.”
Aurora’s mom is their biggest supporter through their art. Their mom has encouraged them to continue it throughout their whole life and they are very thankful for her. She makes Aurora want to carry on with and improve their art.
Their mother actually went to event design in arts and she also likes to paint and sew!
Aurora does have their struggles when it comes to art. Sometimes it can be hard to draw animals around them when they are moving too much. However they can fix this by simply taking a quick picture.
They would like to try other mediums, one such as oil paintings. Aurora used to paint quite a lot before they moved during the Coronavirus era. Painting was relaxing and fun for Aurora and they would love to get back into painting and to maybe finish up old projects of theirs.
When asking who Aurora's favorite artist was, they said they don’t have an exact favorite artist. Rather that they love old Romanian and Victorian era art because they have secret messages in them and that the illustration is beautiful.
As a fun little bit I like to ask these artists what their favorite color is and Aurora’s was forest green!
