Taluelah Madrid, age 16, is an 11th grade student here at Middletown High School, and she is a marvelous artist.
Her mother loved to draw when she was younger and just recently she took some art classes at a college while trying to get her degree there. Taluelah now gets to own one of her moms old sketchbooks from when she was young. Her father likes to draw a bit but he definitely doesn’t love it as much as Taluelah does. Taluelah’s uncle (her dads brother) is the other artist
in the family.
Taluelah’s medium when it comes to her art is sketching. Using just a plain led pencil because, quote, “I feel like when I add colors to my drawings it takes away from what I want to portray.” I personally can agree with this because I too have never liked incorporating colored pencil into my artwork; it ruins the art and makes it look childish.
Taluelah sketches a variety of things. She says that whatever she draws depends on her mood. She could be sketching people which usually takes her a day or two. Or she could be sketching things in the natural world from clouds, plants, the moon, etc.
She however does have her fair share of struggles. She’ll go into creative blocks, meaning she doesn’t have the inspiration she needs to create a new piece of artwork. Another difficulty of hers is making her art symmetrical <relatable>
Taluelah would like to become more creative. She senses that her art might be pretty straight forward and she wishes to come up with her own concepts.
I asked Taluelah if she could try out any other mediums, what would they be? Taluelah said that she would like to make poetry and write songs. Saying ,“I love the expression that comes with it and I just think it's so beautiful.”
Art has always been very special to Taluelah, she’s loved it since she was a little girl and she enjoys seeing just how advanced she's gotten overtime.
Taluelah’s grandma is one of her biggest supporters. They always made art together when Taluelah was younger. Her grandma even has a shelf in her very own art studio with all of Taluelah’s artwork, and is always checking in with Taluelah through text to see if she has made any new pieces of art.
Taluelah said that her grandma is practically the main reason she loves art so much now.
For my last questions in our interview I asked Taluelah who are her favorite artists, one old, one new. She told me that she loves Vincent Van Gogh (famous artist living from 1853-1890) as the old artist and Greta Gerwig ( Famous actress and screenwriter in today's time) as the newer artist.
Finally I asked the hardest question of all time, “What's your favorite color?” She replied with the color viridian, probably the most beautiful shade of green I have ever seen.
Thank you Taluelah for your time. You are an outstanding artist and I can’t wait to see where else you can go in the world of art!
